A Sinner’s Prayer
What is the Sinner’s Prayer? The Sinner’s Prayer is a prayer that asks God for forgiveness. It is often used by people who are trying to convert to Christianity. The prayer goes something like this: “Lord Jesus, I know that I am a sinner and that I have done wrong things in my life. I am sorry for my sins, and I want to ask you to forgive me. I believe that you died on the cross for my sins and that you rose from the dead. I accept you as my Lord and Savior. Please help me to live a good life from now on.”
What is the Sinner’s Prayer?
The term “sinner’s prayer” refers to a Christian prayer uttered by someone who wishes to repent of their sin, ask God for forgiveness, and confess faith in Jesus Christ’s life, death, and resurrection. Romans 10:9 says, “if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.”
You are saved because you believe with your heart and speak out loud; you are justified because you state your faith aloud.
The Salvation Prayer: Confessing Christ As My Savior
Many people have connected spiritually with Jesus Christ through church services, friendships, and family members who’ve led them in a salvation prayer. It is not, however, the words of a prayer that save us. Jesus Christ has the power to save people through their faith alone.
The four examples of a sinner’s prayer below can assist you in expressing your repentance for your sin and your faith in Christ, as well as accepting God’s forgiveness.
The Sinner’s Prayer
Lord Jesus, you have been kept out of my life for far too long. I am aware that I am a sinner and that I cannot save myself. When I hear the door knock, I will no longer shut it in your face. Thank you for coming to Earth as the Son of God and sacrificing yourself on the cross to atone for my sins. Thank you for taking my sins upon yourself and bestowing on me the gift of everlasting life. Because your words are true, Come into my heart, Lord Jesus, and be my Savior. Amen
We forgive others because God has forgiven us. One of the most wonderful things you can do once you’ve accepted Jesus into your life is to seek to forgive those who have hurt you.
Sinner’s Prayer of Repentance – (Psalm 51)
“Have mercy on me, O God,
according to Your unfailing love;
according to Your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.
Wash away all my iniquity
and cleanse me from my sin.
For I know my transgressions,
and my sin is always before me.
Against You, You only, have I sinned
and done what is evil in Your sight,
so that You are proved right when You speak
and justified when You judge.
Surely I have been a sinner from birth,
sinful from the time my mother conceived me…
Cleanse me with hyssop, and I will be clean;
wash me and I will be whiter than snow…
Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me from Your presence
or take Your Holy Spirit from me.
Restore to me the joy of Your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit to sustain me.
Then will I teach transgressors Your ways,
and sinners will turn back to You.
The Sinner’s Prayer
Please, Lord, I acknowledge that I am a sinner who is unable to save myself. I confess my complete impotence in forgiving my own transgression or working my way to heaven. At this time, I trust Christ alone as the One who bore my sin when He died on the cross. Christ’s resurrection from the dead serves as an assurance for my own resurrection. In the name of Jesus, I surrender my life to God. Despite all my faults and mistakes, He has assured me that He will accept me. Father, I believe you when you say that you will take me. Thank you for assuring me that even in the depths of hell You will follow with me. Thank you for responding to this supplication. In Christ’s Name, amen.
Pray This Prayer for Salvation
Lord, I recognize that I am a sinner. My need and desire for forgiveness are great. I acknowledge the penalty of my sin as paid by Your death and understand that Your compassion and grace are given to me as a gift because of Your infinite love, not based on anything I have done. Cleanse me and make me your child by faith. From now on, help me live for You, with You in command, so that I may serve You better. In Your holy name, Amen.
