Trust in the Lord With All Your Heart

Trusting God is an intersection of belief and faith based on what we have witnessed God do in the past and what we know he can do in the future.

Trust in the Lord begins when we become Christians and commit our lives to serve God. At this moment, we trust and believe that God forgives us for all of our sins and our soul is cleansed.

As we grow in faith, the Lord reveals himself to us in our everyday lives and our faith naturally increases with spiritual maturity. The more we know God, the more we should trust God.

John 15:5 tells us that without God we can accomplish nothing. We need God for all things.

How to Trust God Completely

Trust in the Lord with all your heart
    and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.

Proverbs 3:5-6 New International Version (NIV)

Trusting in God completely begins with recognizing that God is the author and creator of all things. When we awake in the morning, it is because God allowed it. When hurricanes bypass our cities, it is because God commanded it. Even when tragedy strikes in our lives, it is because God permitted it.

When we begin to see God in all things, we can learn to trust God in all things. The scripture tells us not to depend on our own understanding, realizing that mankind is not capable of comprehending God’s will. We are His sheep and must submit to Him.

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts,
neither are your ways my ways,”
declares the Lord.
“As the heavens are higher than the earth,
so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts.

Isaiah 55:8-9 New International Version (NIV)

We will never understand everything that God allows to happen in our lives, good or bad. But we must trust that God knows and wants what is best for us, his children. A great place to start is by simply reading the Bible. God’s word informs us of what God has already done and provides us with comfort, knowing that God can do anything.

Trusting God in Difficult Times

Why is it important that every Christian makes a habit of trusting God in all things? Because no matter who are, difficult times will arise in your life at some point. If you have made a habit of trusting God in all things, placing your troubles in His hands become much easier. It may not be physically easier or financially easier, but it is easier on your spirit and does not damage your faith.

In a letter to the Philippians, Apostle Paul wrote that although he was happy that the Lord eventually showed concern for him, he trusted all along that the Lord was concerned even when Paul couldn’t see it.

The worst thing we can do in difficult times is trying to fix everything on our own. As believers, we too must trust God even in hard times when it seems like God has abandoned us. Remember, “lean not on your own understanding.”

Knowing that the difficulties of life may strike at any time should motivate us to make trusting God a habit. When your bank account is looking good, trust God. When you get a new job, trust God. When your body is healthy, trust God. Because when a difficult situation arises, you will know that God can restore your life to the good times.

He pursues them and passes on safely, by paths his feet have not trod. Who has performed and done this, calling the generations from the beginning? I, the Lord, the first, and with the last; I am he. Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted. And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God. “All things are lawful for me,” but not all things are helpful. “All things are lawful for me,” but I will not be enslaved by anything. “Food is meant for the stomach and the stomach for food”—and God will destroy both one and the other.
