Prayers for Strength

This has become a historically challenging year within its first few months. The amount of uncertainty that is in the air right now is enough to stress anyone out and with this uncertainty that has been affecting our health, finances, and emotional well-being, people have been turning to multiple outlets for comfort and assurance.

Many of these outlets may be positive, such as learning a new hobby or skill to pass the time or increasing the amount of time spent talking to the family through social media and face-time. Other’s may not be so positive, as many addictions may be fueled by loneliness. In either case, we should be turning our worries over to God and searching for comfort through his perfect word.

The bible has many examples where the people of God turn to him in times of crisis. Humbling yourself before the lord was never seen as a sign of weakness. Rather, it showed strength, courage, and insight by these men who were able to recognize their shortcomings and the necessity of God’s help.

Even Jesus, who was perfect in the eyes of the Lord, saw the value of confiding in his heavenly father. Solomon, one of the wisest, richest, and most infamous kings of Israel prayed for wisdom above all else.

David humbly asked for strength, to which, God granted him as evident by his legacy. The strength that God will grant us may not be that of the kings of old, but he will always give us the strength to endure the hardships that come our way.

1 Peter 5:6 says, “Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so at the proper time he may exalt you.” Just like the kings of the old testament and the disciples of the new, if we recite these prayers to the lord, it is a way for us to humble ourselves before him.

To recognize our own inefficiencies may be a challenging thing for many men or women who distinguish themselves by their independence; possibly because they believe the need to rely on others is a weakness or maybe it’s because they have relied on others before and other people have let them down.

This is something I have struggled with personally, and I am sure that many others have struggled with as well. It’s almost inevitable that the people we rely on will let us down in the end because as we all know, people are imperfect.

The only one who is unconditional, completely perfect, and completely reliable is he who made us all. We can do all things through him who strengthens us (Philippians 4:13 paraphrased) and we can gain this strength by speaking to him personally; and by reading his word or reading different prayers of encouragement, he will answer our prayers. All we need to do is simply ask, and it will be given to us. The following prayers are words to read or recite when asking God for strength in our moments of physical or spiritual weakness.

It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.

2 Samuel 22:33

How to Pray for Strength

When we consider the strength of our prayer habits, many of us must admit that we pray for various issues that we face every day. We pray for our families and friends, we pray for health, and we even pray for our spiritual leaders. But even those of us who have a strong prayer life only consider praying for strength in our weakest moments.

Prayer must become a habitual practice in the lives of devout Christians. Therefore, as we pray for many other aspects of our lives, it is practical to pray for strength before we feel like we need it.

Pray for strength during those times when you feel strong. This practice will strengthen your prayer life in the long run and serve to build up a reserve of strong faith that you can rely on during times of spiritual weakness.

A Prayer for Spiritual Strength

Heavenly Father, God of peace, you are my heart’s desire. In your word I find hope. In your Holy Spirit, I find strength.

Thank you for your comfort in stressful circumstances. Thank you for calm during the storms of life. Thank you for your undying love that never fails me.

God, I come to you now because I am weak. The stresses of life are overwhelming my soul. Sinful temptations are all around me and I need your help to stay strong. Strengthen my spirit, oh God.

Your word says that you give strength to the weary and increase the power of the weak. God, I need you now. Pull down every stronghold in my life that I may draw nearer to you in spirit.

You are my refuge and my rock. I believe that you will provide my needs in life and in spirit. I claim my spiritual miracle in advance. Thank you, dear God, for your unfailing love. Amen.

A Prayer for Courage

Dear God, before I ask for anything, I want to thank you for the many opportunities you have provided for me. I know that I would not be in this position without your help and guidance. But here I am God, scared and afraid.

Help me to trust in your word which says you have not given me the spirit of fear but of a strong mind. I ask God that you go before me and make every crooked way straight. Fight my battles, Oh God. I ask these things in your matchless name. Amen.

A Prayer for Mental Strength (Sanity)

Father God, first I submit my will to you. I praise your almighty power. I feel weakened in my mind. The stress of my circumstances is too much so I seek your face.

Today Father help me to draw nigh to you. I know Isaiah 26:3. Touch my mind and help me to stay focused on your promise to keep my mind as I trust in you.

You are my strength in times of weakness, so God, strengthen my mind in the name of Jesus. There is none like you in the Earth. God, settle the spirit of anxiety and take control of my mind.

Help me to keep my trust and faith in you. God, mediate on my behalf. Abba, I need strength to go on. Yahweh, I need strength to make it. Jehovah, strengthen my mind today. I know you can and I believe you will. In Jesus’ name I pray. Amen.

A Prayer for Physical Strength

Father God, Proverbs 18:10 says that “The name of the Lord is a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.” I thank you, God, for that safety in your name. I’m calling on you now for the strength I need for the task ahead. Strength to endure and accept at the most uncomfortable cost. You are my rock and my fortress. In you, I shall trust.

You have blessed me with the physical health and strength to prepare for this moment and now the time has come for preparation and destiny to meet. Be with me, oh God. Give me the strength to excel. Give me the energy to achieve. Make me a vessel of your overarching power.

Make me an Earthly example of your mighty works and I will forever give your name the praise, honor, and glory. Amen.

A Prayer for Strength in Times of Loneliness

Heavenly Father, I know that you love me. You show me every day that your grace surrounds me. For that I am thankful and I praise your holy name.

I come to you now, oh Lord, because my flesh is weak. I need your help. I need your strength. I ask that you send your holy spirit to guide me in my weakest hour.

Temptation is all around me, but my soul desires to please you alone. Empower me to deny my fleshly desires and serve you only.

Though I am not alone, my heart is lonely and I feel like no one understands me. But I have hidden your word in my heart and I don’t want to sin. You know my heart’s desire.

Lord, I ask that you cleanse my mind of carnal thoughts and fill my heart with love for you alone. Rebuke the temptations of the enemy and increase my faith, oh God.

Send the comfort of your Holy Spirit and command my unpure thoughts to flee. I praise your name for the restoration of a sound mind and the peace and serenity of my body. I am your temple, oh God. My desire is a purity of body, mind, and soul.

Thank you, God, for your companionship and comfort. Amen.

A Prayer for Strength in Hard Times

Abba! Father of ALL! God of Heaven and Earth! Oh, You Reign! As God, you are so amazing and know all things. God, you are yet faithful and have not forgotten your Children.

Through this time of hardship, I look to an Ephesians 3:20 blessing as I thank you in advance. My struggle is trying to overtake me and I am uncertain of what is to come of this situation, but I am sure that you are a God of favor and mercy.

Lord, you are everything that I need so Lord I ask that you take the lead. Make provisions as only you can. Open every closed door. I pray. I stand. I trust. I believe that my steps are ordered according to Psalm 37:23.

The God I serve intervenes. God, I need you now, it has to be you in this hour. God, you know best. Lord let your will be done in and through this storm. Jesus, help me to be still and remember you are God. Psalm 46:10.

I express my sincere appreciation and gratitude for your divine plan for my life. My face is set like a flint. I am stronger. I am wiser. I am better. I decree that I am Blessed. I win, now and forever. Amen.
