27 Epic Christian Tattoo Ideas

Many elderly Christians who grew up in the “old-time church” are greatly opposed to tattoo art. They even use the Bible verse Leviticus 19:28 “Do not cut your bodies for the dead or put tattoo marks on yourself” to support their belief that getting a tattoo is a sin.

However, if we examine modern tattoo art, it’s very different from the Biblical context of tattoos. In fact, if we consider the Bible in its original context, there is no scripture that forbids tattooing as we know it today.

For example, the King James Version of Leviticus 19:28 says “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you: I am the Lord.” Some Bible scholars have interpreted this scripture as referring to scarification since there was no equivalent to modern tattoos in Biblical times.

What Does the Bible Say About Tattoos?

The Bible speaks of the Canaanites who customarily engaged in cutting and slashing of their flesh for ritualistic purposes (1 Kings 18:28). They commonly did this to mourn their dead or honor their gods. We can logically assume that this was the kind of activity that the scripture forbids.

Here are a few Bible scriptures that may shed more light on this topic:

1 Corinthians 10:31

1 Timothy 2:9

1 Corinthians 3:17

1 Corinthians 6:19-20

What is a Christian Tattoo?

A Christian tattoo is simply any tattoo art that depicts a symbol of the Christian religion, such as, a cross, image of Jesus Christ, a Bible, or any other objects or actions with an inner meaning expressing Christian ideas.

WARNING: Getting a tattoo – even a religious one – is a very serious decision and should not be taken lightly. Before getting a tattoo, consult your pastor, physician, or family and friends.

What does the Bible say about tattoos?

The verse in the Bible that most Christians make reference to is Leviticus 19:28, which says, ”You shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor tattoo any marks on you: I am the Lord.”

Are tattoos bad for you?

A variety of health effects can result from tattooing. Because it requires breaking the skin barrier, tattooing carries inherent health risks, including infection and allergic reactions. The wide range of pigments currently used in tattoo inks may create unforeseen health problems.

How much does a tattoo cost?

Professional artisans usually charge per hour, per work. With this, one is guaranteed a good quality professional work. The cost starts at $100 to $300 per hour and depending on the size and complexity, it may augment to thousands of dollars. If one wants a custom tattoo, the price per hour can start from $50 to $300.

  1. Christian tattoos are a representation of the collector’s Christian beliefs. The cross or a Biblical scene, particularly one portraying Jesus Christ or angels, are symbols that indicate this; I have attempted several of them from https://wannabeink.com/collections/christian. Small crosses can be worn anywhere on the body. Biblical scenes are often elaborate and grandiose. A complete back might be the ideal backdrop for a whole Biblical scenario. The purpose behind a Christian tattoo is to carry the presence of God with you at all times and to physically demonstrate your faith to others.
